Happy Hall believes lifelong habits are formed throughout childhood. We offer before and after school, distance learning, and hybrid learning programs. Our programs build strength of character and confidence through a variety of fun and enriching experiences. Happy Hall has been educating children since 1951.


Choosing who will care for your child before and after school is an important decision. Here’s a quick overview to help you decide if we’re the right fit for you and your family.


Happy Hall follows the Millbrae School District (MESD) distance learning schedule.

Caring Child


We understand that paying for full-day care during the school year is an unexpected expense. Additionally, running a program that implements best practices, and follows local, state, and federal health and safety guidelines, incurs additional expenses. We did our best to determine a fair and equitable rate for both our families and teachers.

  • ​​In-Seat Learning (ISL) Days end between 12:15 - 12:45 PM depending on grade

  • Students will be walked by school staff to Happy Hall when ISL has ended

  • There is no Before School care on ISL (In-Seat Learning days)

  • The rate for students attending ISL 2 or more days a week is the same

  • If a child is required to quarantine from their elementary school, they are also required to quarantine from Happy Hall Schools.    

  • MESD has requested that students arrive at Happy Hall no later than 7:55 AM on Distance Learning days to allow for students being dropped off for ISL.

Synchronous Online Learning:

  • Students must log in at specific times

  • Students and school teachers interact virtually in real time

  • Students are provided instruction by their school teacher in real time

  • Students can ask their school teacher for help in real time

Asynchronous Online Learning:

  • Students are not required to log in at specific times

  • Students access learning materials on their own

  • Students may have to wait to get answers from their school teacher

  • Students may need help from an adult other than their school teacher



Parents must provide:

  • Fully charged Chromebook

  • Chromebook charger for recharging

  • Wired headphone with a microphone

  • All login information

  • Special materials required by your child’s teacher (that we don’t have)

  • Happy Hall is not responsible for missing or damaged items

Happy Hall will provide:

  • A workstation (only to be used by your child)

  • General learning materials (lined paper, pencils, erasers, glue, scissors, etc.)

  • Technical support (login, password creation, video conferencing, etc.)

  • Access to high-speed Wi-Fi. Happy Hall cannot guarantee that Wi-Fi will be up 100% of the time; however, our provider, Comcast, is very reliable.

  • We will do our best to assist with asynchronous work; however, it is ultimately up to the parent to assist their children with any learning that requires prolonged one-on-one support.



Your child’s teacher will provide Happy Hall with their classroom schedule, required materials, access to your child’s Google Classroom, and other online resources needed to support your child.

  • Once online learning has ended for the day, children will have an opportunity to enjoy additional outdoor time, science, creative arts, SEL activities, and discovery time.

  • Outdoor activities will be prioritized, as they decrease transmission of COVID.

  • Because Happy Hall has been providing care throughout this unique and often challenging time, our teachers have found several activities that children enjoy, while maintaining a physical distance.



Happy Hall is limiting the number of items from home and providing children with individual materials to reduce opportunity for transmission.

Children are permitted to bring:

  • Jacket

  • Hat

  • Water Bottle (water fountains are closed)

  • Online Learning Supplies (Chromebook, chargers, headphones, etc.)

  • Lunch (if not eating lunch provided by MSD)

  • Books

  • Happy Hall is not responsible for missing or damaged items

Happy Hall will provide:

  • Materials caddy to hold learning and enrichment supplies

  • Crate and reusable bag to store belongings

  • Learning and enrichment supplies (markers, rulers, scissors, glue, paper, etc.)

  • Games, toys, cards, books, and other activities that can remain in at their workstation

  • Access to larger games, toys, and activities to be thoroughly sanitized between uses

  • Rocky Mountain Sunscreen



  • Morning snack is provided to all children

  • Afternoon snack is provided to children enrolled in our Full-Day Program

  • The Millbrae School District is offering free lunch to all students. Your child is encouraged to eat the school lunch to reduce belongings from home.

  • Food from home cannot be heated and must be easily opened by your child.



  • You must keep your child home if they have a temperature of 100.4 or any other symptoms.

  • If your child is in our care and has a temperature of 100.4 or any other symptoms, you will be called and expected to pick up your child within one hour.

  • Children must be symptom and medication-free for 72 hours prior to returning depending on the symptoms and severity of the symptoms.

  • If a child or household member has symptoms that are consistent with Covid-19 or has been in close contact with a person with symptoms or diagnosed with COVID-19, you must notify us immediately.



To administer any medication, including over-the-counter items, to your child, State Law Section 101226.e requires that you provide us direction from a doctor and your written authorization on the HHS Medication Authorization Form. Medications are administered at lunchtime only.


PHOTOGRAPHS / VIDEOS: We often take photographs and/or video and use these images in various media for educational and promotional purposes (e.g., website, brochures, newsletters, parent events, professional training, and child observations, etc.).


STUDENT BEHAVIOR: If your child is unable to safely interact or participate in our program, you will be called and requested to pick up your child within one hour. The Director will work with your family to help address any issues.


DISENROLLMENT: If it is in the best interest of the child and/or HHS, we reserve the right to disenroll a child.


COMMUNITY CARE LICENSING: The Community Care Licensing Department has the authority, without parent consent, to conduct interviews with children or staff and to inspect and audit records per State Law Section 101200.b.


OUTSIDE SERVICES: HHS strongly discourages our employees from providing families any services that are not part of our program. HHS does not authorize such services and is not responsible for any acts or omissions of any employee while providing such services.


ARBITRATION: In the event a dispute arises out of or relating to services provided by HHS that cannot be resolved in good faith directly with HHS, all parties (parents, guardians, HHS) agree to participate in mediation by a mutually agreed-upon third party.  In the event that mediation does not resolve the dispute or no third party can be agreed to, then parties agree to participate in binding arbitration governed by the Commercial Arbitration Rules of the American Arbitration Association. Any settlement or award by the arbitrator shall be final and enforceable in any court having jurisdiction over this dispute.




  • You must enroll in Tuition Auto Pay (TAP) via the Parent Portal using your bank account (no fee) or credit card (2% fee)

  • Payments are due in advance and are processed on the 3rd of each month via TAP.

  • A late payment fee of $50 will be applied to your account for payments received after the 3rd of the month.

  • Enrollment will be terminated if full payment is not received by the 10th of the month.

  • Frequent late payments may result in dismissal.

  • When more than one person is responsible for tuition, each person is responsible for all amounts due.

  • There are no credits or refunds for absences.

  • Happy Hall Schools reserves the right to raise tuition with 30-day notice.



A 30-day notice is required or you will be charged your current tuition for a minimum of 30 days from the date we receive this notice, even if your child does not attend.



  • When and if your child transitions to Hybrid Learning, your fees will be adjusted based on our proration schedule to account for the time your child is attending in-person classes.

  • On days that children attend in-person classes, they cannot attend Happy Hall before the start of their school day. Parents are responsible for checking their children directly into school. This will help limit your child's exposure to more than two groups per day.

  • Children can come directly to Happy Hall on days they will not be attending school.



  • An 8.5-hour schedule allows a single teacher to be dedicated to a specific group

  • Schedules are 5 days a week, no drop-ins or extended hours

  • Adults are required to wear a mask at all times, while on school grounds

  • Children are required to wear a mask during the check-in process, indoors, and outdoors (except when eating)

  • Social distancing being practiced as much as possible 

  • Adults must use 1CORE Family app to sign child in and out, or request a teacher to sign your child in our out using your unique pin

Drop-Off Procedures

  • Children must arrive no later than 8:00 AM to allow time to complete the daily check in-process and get their workstation setup for a successful morning of learning that begins promptly at 8:15 AM.

  • Adult must walk child to classroom (only teachers and children allowed in classrooms)

  • An authorized adult must be present during the child check-in process (health screening, temperature check, and hand sanitization).

Pick-Up Procedures

  • An 8.5-hour schedule allows a single teacher to be dedicated to a specific group. This does not allow for late pickups. If you will be late you must contact us as soon as possible. There is a $5 per minute late pick up fee (no grace period). Frequent lateness may result in dismissal.

  • Adults must pick-up children from classrooms (only teachers and children allowed in classrooms).



These are challenging times and change seems to be happening at a rapid pace and though we so desperately want life to return to normal, we will partner with you to maintain a healthy and safe environment so we all can move forward together. As local guidelines change, we must adapt to meet the needs of the community, and therefore; our policies and procedures will need to change. We will keep you informed of such changes.

  • The program directors will review your registration request.

  • If there is space available, you will receive an Enrollment Offer email to complete the registration process.

  • If there is not space, you will be notified and placed on the waitlist. You will be notified when a space opens up.
