HAPPY HALL PRESCHOOL

TODDLER, EARLY PRESCHOOL, & PRE-K

Update From Ty Durekas, President

Dear Families,

We would like to welcome your family back to Happy Hall Schools, hope you had a nice Labor Day weekend!

In April, we conducted a survey, and I outlined a variety of areas we would invest resources and make improvements. As you most likely have noticed, we were quite busy during our annual school closure for fall setup. We completed our facility modernization work which included new flooring, a fresh coat of paint throughout, as well as new equipment and furniture. Our school is more secure, as we now have all exits properly secured, and we recently changed the door code, so only existing teachers and families have it.

We hired a registered dietician and revamped our snack and lunch menu.  We started serving organic milk and have made substantial changes to the snack menu replacing Goldfish and Cheez-it’s with healthier options, like hummus, veggies, and organic fruit. We've also eliminated soups from our menu during the summer months.

I am happy to report that our permanent positions are fully staffed, we have some fantastic new teachers that have joined our experienced and talented teachers, many that have been part of the Happy Hall family for a very long time. Happy Hall has chosen to use Creative Curriculum, a nationally respected curriculum that has both a digital and paper approach to lesson planning. It is new to our teachers, and we will be implementing it in several classrooms this year.

Finally, on the subject of parking, I want to thank everyone who is trying to stick to our 10-minute rule during peak hours. We did manage to increase parking with two spots where the vans used to park. I did smile at the suggestion that we build a parking garage, let’s all work together to ensure that families do not have to wait too long for each other to pick up.

I’m looking forward to meeting many new faces this year; we will have our open house on Tuesday, September 18. Thank you for trusting us with your children.

Sincerely,

Ty Durekas, President

Back to School Night
Back to School Night is coming up on Tuesday, September 18 at 4:00 PM.  Ty and I will speak briefly to all parents about some school updates, and then you will have time to spend in your child’s classroom. You should not pick up your child before or during the event. This event is just for parents. If your child has a part day schedule, your child may stay until after the event is over for no extra charge. This is a parent only event. If an older sibling is coming along with you, please express to them they must stay with you and be quiet during the time the teachers are speaking. Also, please do not park in the driveways during the event as those are for 10-minute parking only. We are looking forward to having time to talk together.

Parking
We know parking in the mornings and afternoons can be difficult during the busy times. I want to encourage everyone to be patient and courteous to all the drivers. This means if you decide to wait in line to park in the driveway, please be sure to let the car in front of you have the first spot available. Also, I encourage you to park in the neighborhood and walk to the school when it is busy. It is an excellent time to spend with your child and to talk about street safety. We are a community, and it is essential to build relationships with families and for everyone to start and end their day with positive interactions.

Attendance: Why you don't want to miss Circle Time.
The goal of Circle Time is to establish community, introduce the day's plan, explore new ideas, review important facts, and have fun. When children miss Circle Time, they lose the opportunity to connect with their peers, they don't know what the day's activities are, and they miss out on a daily routine that gives them reassurance and direction. Arriving by 9:00 AM allows for children to put away their belongings and join circle time. Because Circle Time is an important activity for each student, we will ask that if you arrive once Circle Time has already started, that you wait with your child until it is over. Our teachers make every effort to ensure as few interruptions as possible during Circle Time and we would appreciate your assistance with this.

Complimentary Coffee

Every Friday, in appreciation of our Happy Hall families, we welcome you to join us on the Fiesta Deck between 7:00-10:30 AM for complimentary coffee.

Happy Hall Schools has been collecting donations for the upcoming North Peninsula Relay for Life event which will take place on Saturday, September 22 at Millbrae’s Central Park. We hope you’ll join us at this family-friendly event. Click HERE for more details or HERE to donate to our team.

Picture Days
Picture Days will take place on October 1, 2 and 3. Michelle Noguera, our new photographer, who took our beautiful staff photos will be photographing your children. Photos will be taken in an indoor studio with backdrop and Michelle will make sure to take the best photos possible for you. Every child will have their picture taken. On your child’s picture day, please arrive by 8:30 AM with your child wearing their Picture Day outfit. We can change them into play clothes after their pictures if you want to bring extra clothes. Once Michelle processes the images, she will bring in the photos for you to purchase if you wish. More details to follow.

CLUB HAPPY HALL AT MEADOWS

BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS (GRADES TK-5)

Welcome Back

Welcome back to the new school year! We are excited to see all of our returning Club Families and meet all the new families as well. I also want to welcome back our staff, Mr. Stephen, Ms. Colleen, Ms. Karen, Ms. Lexie, Ms. Jaden, Mr. Al, and Ms. Julia! We are eager to be a part of your children’s growth and learning this year.

Changes
As the new year begins, we are changing and renewing schedules and activities. We are also making some changes to the Club. We are refurbishing the couches, getting rid of some of the old to add new and planning fun activities for the children to enjoy. We are making some changes to the daily schedule to accommodate the new bell schedules for TK and Kindergarten. On Wednesdays, we have started the year out with group games down on the field. The children seem to be enjoying being able to get to know new friends and catch up with old friends they didn’t get to see over the summer during the game time. Some games we have played are The Name Game, Parachute, Steal the Bacon and Dodgeball.

Club Activities
The children have colored their birthday campers, and they are displayed inside the club. The 3rd -5th  graders have been tube knitting and making lanyards while the younger grades have been pendulum painting this past week.  We have begun working on one hour of homework with the children as well. Please be sure to review your child’s work at home as well.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to a wonderful year with you all!

Club Happy Hall Dollars

Following our Club Rules are some ways our Happy Hall children can earn Club Happy Hall dollars. Each child also receives 5 Club Happy Hall dollars on their birthday. If your child’s birthday lands in the summer, they will receive their 5 Club Happy Hall dollars towards the end of the school year. Club Happy Hall dollars is our reward system at Club Happy Hall Rollingwood. Club Happy Hall dollars are not just given, they have to be earned. We ask our children to treat their Club Happy Hall dollars like real money. We never replace lost or stolen dollars. It is a way of learning responsibility. On Fridays, we open our Happy Hall store that consists of different items for our children to purchase with their Club Happy Hall dollars. Our items are priced from 1-10 Club Happy Hall dollars. If you would like to donate to our Club Happy Hall store, please bring your items in at any time.

Arts and Crafts Time
Our children created handprint names on the first 2 days of school. They have been coloring kind-word puzzles for our whiteboard. They have also been painting and making lots of fuse bead designs. Fuse beads are plastic beads put together on a base, then ironed for the beads to fuse together.

Friendly Reminders
Please call or email us if your child/children will be absent. If your child/children are dropping in or adding hours, please fill out the Rollingwood Add-On/Drop-In Request 24 hours before attending Club Happy Hall. Advance notice would be appreciated.
